St. Teresa's School - Ecole Ste-Thérèse is located on Mundy Pond Road and is the neighborhood K - 6 school for students who live in the extended Mundy Pond area. As a dual-track school, we offer programming in both English and Early French Immersion (EFI) and many of our EFI students come from all parts of the greater St. John's area. Of the 478 students presently enrolled at our school, approximately 2/3 are enrolled in our English program and 1/3 of the students are in the EFI. The staff consists of 34 teachers, including full teaching units for Guidance, Physical Education and Music.
The EFI program at St. Teresa's is one of the most established EFI programs in the district. Our EFI teachers are some of the most experienced in the district. In addition, we have a very large supply of EFI resources that have been accumulated over time. In our Primary English classes we offer a unique literacy program that was introduced nine years ago. Since its inception, we have been able to ensure that all students were readers by the time they left the Primary grades. There is a very active Music Program at St. Teresa's. In addition to regular classroom music, there are several choirs and we are the only school in the city that offers a String Orchestra Program to students as early as Grade 3. Presently there are nearly one hundred children involved in the string program. The Physical Education program is very active with students taking part in cross-country running, intramurals, after-school basketball, in addition to our regular Phys Ed program. Our school features two computer labs where hardware is regularly upgraded. Both labs are used regularly by students to improve their technology skills and to research topics related to curriculum. |
