Our vision at St. Peter's Elementary is to create a safe and caring community of learners whose respect, collaboration and diversity are celebrated in a proactive and focused approach to student learning and achievement.
St. Peter's Elementary is located on Ashford Drive in the city of Mount Pearl. Our school community has an enrollment of 746 students and we offer programs from Kindergarten to Grade 6 in both English and French Immersion. We have a total teacher allocation of 49 units, which includes 33 regular teaching units, 8.5 special services units and additional specialists in the areas of music, physical education, guidance and learning resources. In addition to the provincially prescribed programs in music, art and physical education, we are striving to develop the technology skills of our students. Technology outcomes have been identified at grade level to ensure consistency of expectations. All students at St. Peter's Elementary have weekly scheduled visits to our computer lab where children can develop their technology skills. We are proud of our program offerings at the Kindergarten to Grade 6 level, especially our ability to offer programming in both French Immersion and English. Through the school development process, we have developed action plans to improve student learning in the areas of mathematics and language arts and we are also working to develop a safe and caring school environment. We offer a variety of extra-curricular programs which include: intramurals, basketball, cross-country running, drama and CANSPELL preparation. Students at St. Peter's are recognized through our Student of the Week program, which is based on the philosophy that all children are special and each child should be a 'star' for a week. Parents play a vital role at St. Peter's with their participation in our Parents Can Help Program. We currently have over 50 volunteers who work to enhance the quality of education delivered to the children of St. Peter's Elementary. We are privileged to work within such a supportive school community.
