St. Bernard's Elementary School is part of the Eastern District. We're located in beautiful Witless Bay on the Southern Shore of the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. We're a two stream K-6 school, with an enrolment of two hundred and forty-four (244) students. We serve the communities of Bay Bulls, Witless Bay, Mobile, Tors Cove, Burnt Cove and St. Michael's. Our feeder school is Mobile Central High in Mobile.
Our administrative team consists of Elizabeth Foran as principal, Carolyn Lethbridge as assistant principal and Kevin Parsons in guidance. Our school has a total of 16 full-time and 3 part-time educational staff this year. There is also the support of two student assistants, a secretary and two maintenance personnel. In addition to the staff based at the school, there is access to District Office staff: a speech language pathologist, an educational psychologist, and an itinerant teacher for the hearing and visually impaired.
Our daily activities are guided by our mission statement "St. Bernard's Elementary, a safe and healthy place to learn, play and grow." In our School Development goals we focus on developing the child from all aspects. Our goal areas are Numeracy, Literacy, Technology and Safe and Caring Schools. As members of Peaceful Schools International for five years, we have ongoing activities and special events to promote a safe and caring environment. We've put a considerable effort into environmental education and healthy active living in the last two years, while we've worked on developing a new playground and outdoor classroom. This large project continues to be a work in progress.
