Located in Mt. Pearl, our province’s fastest growing city, O’Donel High School provides an extensive curriculum to our students (levels I-III) and offers a full curriculum in both English and French Immersion streams. O’Donel first opened its doors to students in September 1985 and since that time has developed a rich tradition of success and involvement in the City of Mount Pearl.
Proud of our successful programs, we feel our school can compete with other schools at the highest level in all realms of academic and student life. The academic programs are extremely well-developed and challenge students to reach their highest potential. There are 100+ courses presently offered at the school and among these are several “locally developed courses” which have been approved for study by the provincial Department of Education through the Eastern School District. The wide scope of our curriculum provides students of all abilities with a diversified education: enterprise education and cooperative education programs, programs, comprehensive science, math and technology courses, extensive core French, French Immersion and English offerings, several religious education and art courses, and highly acclaimed physical education and music programs. The mission of O’Donel High School is to empower students to reach their potential as life-long learners and meaningful participants in a global society. We shall achieve this by fostering academic excellence, spiritual development, confidence and responsibility in a nurturing environment. We will be respectful of individual differences and involve the whole learning community in the achievement of curriculum outcomes using varied instructional strategies and appropriate accommodations. At the present time there are a total of 37.5 teaching staff at O’Donel High School. There is also a large support staff consisting of two secretaries, a full-time maintenance person, three evening cleaners, and a cafeteria support staff of three persons. There are two full-time administrators, three student assistants, a guidance/career counsellor, a music teacher, a full-time physical education teacher, and several teaching units applied to the special services programs of our school. We avail of an educational psychologist who is assigned to our school, as well as other speech and language therapists located at board office. |
