Macpherson Elementary is dedicated to providing a caring and collaborative learning environment that promotes healthy, respectful partnerships amongst school, family and community. We will encourage students to reach their fullest potential in a nurturing environment that celebrates diversity.
Macpherson Elementary is a kindergarten to grade 6 school located at 40 Newtown Road in St. John's. We have a staff of 8 classroom teachers, 3.17 categorical and non-categorical Special Education teachers, a Literacy/Numeracy support teacher and specialist teachers in the areas of Guidance, Physical Education, Music, Band and Learning Resources. We also have 2.5 Student Assistants, Secretarial, Maintenance and Custodial Services. In addition to school based staff we have itinerant services for Educational Psychology, Speech-Language Pathology, Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment and English Second Language. The staff of Macpherson is focused on meeting academic needs as well as the social and emotional development of each child. We are delighted to have partnered with a number of agencies in the community to involve our families with a variety of opportunities. The Daybreak, Family Resource Center is central to involving neighborhood families with play activities in a warm caring environment. As well the School Lunch Association operates from these premises. We are actively involved with our neighborhood school with the Tuition for Tutoring Program; Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Arts Council, The Rooms, RNC programs, Association for New Canadians, MUN Physical Education and Education faculties and many other organizations who are welcomed for presentations involving arts, culture, music, literacy, self esteem and more.
