Goulds Elementary is a Kindergarten to Grade 6 neighbourhood school serving the Goulds and Petty Harbour/Maddox Cove communities. Forty-four teachers and nine support staff care for our population of 634 students. Our administrative team consists of Principal Agnes Brennan, Assistant Principal Sheryl Ryan and Guidance Counsellors Helen Moulton & Kevin Parsons. Goulds Elementary offers Early French Immersion and Intensive Core French programs. Approximately one-half of our students travel to and from school by bus with five busses providing this service.

At Goulds Elementary we are committed to providing a positive, nurturing and enriching environment so that every child can reach his/her maximum potential. Our motto, "Through Education We Grow" demonstrates the value we place on teaching and learning.

As a school community, we have identified three goals that will be our focus for the next few years. These goals were in the areas of Literacy, Mathematics, and Safe & Caring Schools. We have begun implementing specific strategies that will help us meet with success in these areas. For instance, Goulds Elementary Talking About Math (GETAM) encourages students to communicate their thinking and reasoning during problem solving. Goulds Reading Every Day All Together (GREAT) provides time for independent reading in all classrooms. Programs called Second Step and DARE help students learn appropriate social behaviour, develop empathy and make good decisions.

There are many other special programs at Goulds Elementary that help us fulfil our mission and accomplish our goals. Our music literacy program includes an elementary choir and band. At the Kindergarten level we offer the Kinderstart program and other intervention programs to support the needs of our early learners. Physical education initiatives such as cross-country running, volleyball, and basketball provide myriad opportunities for our students to be active and healthy.

Student and parent volunteers are an essential component in our success and as a result many volunteer programs flourish at Goulds Elementary. Parents help out with the Breakfast Club, the Kiss and Ride Program, and School Council. Students help each other by becoming prefects and tutors, by contributing to the work of the Pastoral Care Team and by keeping their environment clean through the Recycling Program.

Truly, we are proud and thankful for the wonderful support that we receive from all members of the learning community of Goulds Elementary. By working together we are able to maximize the learning potential of each and every child in our school.
