Fortune Bay Academy is a k-12 school it is located in St. Bernard's, Newfoundland and currently serves the communities of Harbour Mille, Bay L'Argent, Little Bay East and St. Bernard's -Jacque Fontaine. Our student population is approximately 156 with faculty members and various support staff.
Fortune Bay Academy offers the entire provincially prescribed curriculum in Kindergarten through Grade Nine. At the high school level 49 courses are offered including math 3207 and French 3201 which are provided through CDL I. In addition to staff based at the school, we have access to district office staff including Program Specialist, Itinerants for the Hearing and Visually Impaired, Speech and Language personnel, as well as, Educational Psychologists. The school also has the services of secretarial, maintenance and custodial personnel and a lunch and breakfast coordinator. The Newfoundland and Labrador Kids Eat Smart Program, along with the support of local businesses, continue to offer nutritious breakfasts and hot lunches to our students.
The Fortune Bay Academy has an active Student Council. The Council takes on leadership roles in special events such as Remembrance Day Celebrations, Halloween Fair, Christmas Concerts and Winter Carnival. We have sports teams which compete in various events during the year, especially, in Track and Field and Volleyball.
The Performing Predators Drama Troupe is also an important aspect of Fortune Bay Academy. Students look forward to three to four productions a year. Dinner theaters, Christmas performances and the Spring Festival are the highlights of this group. The Predators performance at the 2006- 2007 festival in Grand Bank garnered a total of seven awards, both individually and group based.
