Booth Memorial is a High School with approximately 550 students and 30 staff members. The school was originally built in 1960 to service the Salvation Army population of St. John's. In 1967 it came under the auspices of the Avalon Consolidated School Board and in 1996 became part of the Avalon East School District. Since its opening, Booth Memorial has drawn its students from various areas of the Northeast Avalon. Currently, the school is part of the Eastern School District and draws its students from the Center and West End of St. John's with I J Samson and Holy Cross Junior Highs its feeder schools.
Our school continues its tradition of excellence in the provision of a strong academic program to the various levels of students for whom we are responsible. We have remained flexible and relevant as the demands of a changing society put extra pressure on our educational system. We offer a wide variety of information technology programs to our students and, in partnership with Bishops College, offer a variety of Advanced Placement options. Another aspect of school life, of which we are proud, is the provision of a day care facility for single parents who wish to register at our school. Over the years our students have excelled academically with several Rhodes Scholars and Junior Jubilee winners to our credit. Our Arts, Athletic and Co-op programs have also excelled Locally, Provincially and Nationally. |
