School Report

The original Bishop White Central High School was built and opened in October, 1960. It was named after Bishop William Charles White, first native born Newfoundland Anglican Bishop. Bishop White was born in the nearby town of Trinity. The school was originally built as a central high school to replace the existing one, two and three room schools in the communities from Trouty to English Harbour. In the beginning, it offered instruction in grades seven to eleven with feeder schools remaining in the various communities. The school was operated by the Anglican Board of Education in the Parish of Trinity East and Trinity. With school board integration in 1969, the school came under the jurisdiction of the former Bonavista-Trinity-Placentia Integrated School Board operated from Clarenville.

With the closing of the feeder schools in 1975, and the building of a seven room elementary school, adjoining the high school, Bishop White Central High School became an all-grade school and retained the name of "Bishop White". In 1991 the school enjoyed the official opening of a new extension. This extension included a new gymnasium, change rooms, music room and multipurpose room. During this renovation other rooms in the school were relocated. As a result of school board consolidation in January, 1997 Bishop White School came under the jurisdiction of the Vista School District, operated from Clarenville. In 2004, with further consolidation of the School Board System in Newfoundland and Labrador, Bishop White School has become part of the Eastern School District which has its Head Office in St. John's and District Offices in Clarenville, Burin and Bay Roberts.

Since its opening in 1960, Bishop White School has been served by eight principals, namely: Mr. Roland Clarke, Mr. William Abraham, Mr. Roy Wheeler, Mr. Melvin Kelley, Mr. Steve Brooks, Mr. Loyd Vey, Mr. Graham Butler, and presently Mrs. Stephanie Gould. The school has produced some well-educated and well-rounded individuals who have made their marks in various callings. We can count among our alumni, clergy, business administrators, teachers, RCMP officers and others. Bishop White School has enjoyed a proud and long history and looks forward to a long, adventurous and rewarding future.

Bishop White School located in Port Rexton, Trinity Bay is a K-12 school serving the communities of Old Bonaventure, New Bonaventure, Trouty, Dunfield, Goose Cove, Trinity, Port Rexton, Trinity East, Champney's East, Champney's West, Champney's Arm and English Harbour.
