- The Rowan Centre Adolescent Addictions Day Treatment Program (Partnership between Eastern School District and Addiction Services Eastern Health)
The Rowan Center is a day treatment program for adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18 whose involvement with substance use and/or gambling is having a negative impact on their lives. The program is voluntary program. Clients must be in the preparation stage of change and be willing to goal towards participation in all components of the program as identified in their Individual Treatment Plan. A component of the program involves on-site academic schooling and school liaison. - The Janeway Hospital School (Province-wide)
The Janeway Hospital School offers continuity of education for students who are hospitalized or undergoing treatment at the Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre, Health Sciences Centre or the Miller Centre.The K- Level III population served includes children with chronic illness, traumatic injury, psychiatric and behavioural disorders and physical rehabilitation needs. Admission to the school is made through the Janeway Admission procedure. The primary focus of instruction is to keep the child current with his home school in the four core subject areas; English, math, science and social studies. Regular contact with home schools is maintained, providing the chronically ill student with feedback and support from his school community. - The Laptop Loaner Program (District-wide)
Through the Computers for Schools provincial program the Eastern School District has access to refurbished laptops which may be available to students diagnosed with learning disabilities. An application for this program can be made through the student's ISSP team. If a student is assigned a laptop through this program the maintenance of the computer is the responsibility of the parent/guardian. This program operates under the direction of the Principal of the District School's Alternate program. Home Schooling (District Wide)Parents who wish to educate a child in a home school setting are required to make an application to the Director of Education, Eastern School District, requesting that the child be exempted from regular attendance at school by reason of being under efficient instruction at home. The Director shall consider all requests for home schooling and shall determine whether the proposed educational plan constitutes effective instruction and is in the best interest of the child. This program operates under the direction of the Principal of the District School's Alternate program.
