The following is a list of Good News that has happened in our schools throughout the month of January, 2010.

Bishops College students raise money for Haiti Relief January 19, 2010 Last week we were all shocked to hear the news of the terrible tragedy in Haiti caused by a massive earthquake. Many students were affected deeply by images of what was going on in another part of the world. On behalf of the Bishops College Youth Action Committee, Meaghan Slaney wanted to do something to help and it was decided the most immediate type of help we could offer would be to raise money and contribute to the Haiti Relief fund through the Red Cross. Meaghan set a goal of one thousand dollars and got on the PA and encouraged her classmates to help out and donate as much as they could afford. On Friday, Jan. 15, the students and staff of Bishops College came armed with loads of twoonies, $5, $10 and $20 bills (and even some $50 bills!) At the end of the day Bishops College raised an amazing $1072.5!! This money will go a long way in helping provide things like fresh drinking water, bandages, and other necessities to the people of Haiti to help them through this very difficult time. Meaghan wrote the following after dropping the check off at the Red Cross... "They were overjoyed by the amount and amazed that we did it all in one day! They said it has been a slow day and it was a great way to raise spirits. 100% is going to Haiti! I told them that we would be glad to help in whatever way we can in the future, and they were pleased. A lady there is going to keep in contact with me and let me know if anything comes up that we as a school or of a Committee can do. One lady was a little teary eyed by our acomplishment!"
